February 4 was this year's "student day" at the
Hoggetowne Medieval Faire.
Close to 10,000 students were expected for the event.
Many students traveled from all over North Central Florida to absorb the
culture and flavor of the Middle Ages.
The Fair boasted over 150 booths selling handmade jewelry, weapons and
leather goods.
The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) did demonstrations in the
medieval arts including tatting and illuminated manuscripts, and also
provided information on armor. Jousting, and the human chessboard
provided exciting entertainment, although the performers cheated a little
of the rules in the code of chivalry.
Carnival games with a medieval twist, like knife-throwing and chicken
catapulting rounded out the entertainment.
